It’s mid-season for the Como Cougar’s Hockey team, and the scores stand as 4 wins, 5 losses, with one tie. Tonight, Thursday the 7th of Janurary, the Cougars are playing against Blake at the Coliseum. The team is looking forward to a tough game, Blake’s record being 7 wins and 4 losses. They teams have lost the same amount of times, so the Cougars are looking forward to hopefully increasing their win record.
On Tuesday, the team traveled half an hour to Plymouth to play Providence Academy. It was long-winded game, the periods lasted plenty of time and they even had to play into overtime. Even with the extra time on the ice, the game ended in a tie of 2-2.
It’s going to be a busy few weeks for the team, with a game tonight and another on Saturday (against Minnehaha Academy, at Minnehaha Academy with the time to be determined) and the legendary Rice Street Cup next Friday, the 15th, against Como’s rival team, the Saints. Made up of catholic school hockey players from Saint Bernards, St. Agnes and more, Como has been playing against the Saints annually at the Rice Street Cup for years. All of the Rice Street rivals are looking forward to playing, and Como looks forward to taking back the trophy this year.
If you haven’t been to a game, now is the time to come. The season is half over, the team has sharp new jerseys, and their record isn’t as negative as it has been in the past. If you do go to the games and are looking for a new way to support the team, the old Jerseys are being sold for 15$ per jersey (30$ for a pair) and are selling out fast. To get more information about what number of jerseys, Mr. Katz can be contacted in room 1463 in the beginning of the day, but the more direct route is to go right to the athletic office and speak with Maryhelen Tapio, or Mr. Katz if he’s around. Make sure to get yours before the Rice Street Cup!
