Megan Fox stars in the horror-comedy Jennifer’s Body as the leading lady Jennifer Check. An overly hot and highly self-confident high school student whose body becomes occupied with a demon. Her best friend, Needy, played by Amanda Seyfried, is the only one who can finally put the pieces together but only after boys around the small town go missing one by one.
This story takes place in a small farming town in Minnesota which is a coincidence since Brook Busey (pen name Diablo Cody, who wrote the cult classic Juno) is also from here. The film is rated R and with good reason. There’s plenty of gore, a few F bombs, and Fox showing skin. I can’t say I loved Megan as Jennifer but she certainly did the job. There were parts that were a bit too much and parts that could have had better acting but she did what she could. Her co-star Amanda also did her role very well. Even outshining Meg up until the very end.
Adam Brody makes a minimal appearance as the lead singer of Low Shoulder who just happens to be part of the band who not only catches Jennifer’s interest but takes her into the woods and sacrifices her for a grant of a wish of fame. His character is far different from the type casted roles he has played in the passed. He did a fair job but it took awhile to get used to it.
The plot was easy to follow and there were parts where was the dialogue was clever and well delivered. There was somewhat of a plot twist during the end but it was done pretty well. Part of what gave the movie a good feel was the music. The label Fueled By Ramen almost always puts out good music but the soundtrack for this movie were surprising. Such artists as; All Time Low and Paramore’s Hayley Williams were a part of it and thats what set the tone for the film.
Even if it grossed only $2.8 million opening day and $6.8 million opening weekend and received mix reviews from critics, This may have been because the movie was aimed at teenagers and people in their early twenties opposed to an older crowd. As Needy says, “Sand box love never dies.” and neither did my interest in this movie. Jennifer’s Body opened nation wide on September 18th.
