For many years now the lunch room has been a place of mystery and secrecy. Many questions have been asked, but none are ever answered. The few people claiming to have learned information on the subject have inexplicably vanished.

Now in this one time event the Como Crier presents:

Secrets

Inside of Como Park High School operates a separate business entity called “Nutrition Services.” They are located in the lunchroom. Some might not know this but the lunch service is actually an independent for profit enterprise. It works with the school to provide food for all the students.

The Crier interviewed Nutrition Services Supervisor Vicky Schuch who oversees every aspect of food preparation. She runs everything and it takes a huge amount of precision and coordination, comparable to running a restaurant. She works very hard to provide the 1500 students and staff with food everyday.
Nutrition Services orders the food, delivers the food, and cooks the food. The menus are developed by nutritionists and dieticians at their District Office. They are constantly taking steps to create healthier meals for the city schools.

The Nutrition Services’ District office is located at 1930 Como Ave, and that is where we receive our food. They receive some of the food from local farmers, along with meats from the United States Department of Agriculture and other food subsidies from the United States Government. The food goes through 1930 Como Ave, and is then distributed to most of the schools in the St. Paul Public School District, including some charter and private schools.

Nutrition Services is an entirely separate entity from Como Park High school. They not only have to cook daily meals for 1500 students, but they also are in charge of completely managing their own business. They provide us with healthy meals to counterbalance our unhealthy habits outside of school.
