The regular season has come to an end. The only thing remaining is the Varsity playoffs which starts Saturday, with Mounds Park Academy @ Como at 11 am. The season went really well for our Cougars. The JV team won the conference, and the Varsity and C-teams both came in 2nd place in their conferences. Here follows a wrap-up.
The C-team did really well this year coming in at second place with three wins, one loss and two ties in the conference and having a 7-5-3 overall record. This does not include the exhibition games they played. They were highlighted with a tie against Central’s JV team!
The JV had one of their best seasons ever and won the conference by one point secured in the last game. They ended the season with a 7-1-2 conference record and a 14-2-2 overall record! They beat every team they played at least once proving that they were the best JV team in St. Paul. Even though they didn’t crush a lot of teams, every win felt like a good win and they always seemed to be in control.
The Varsity team also had a great year finishing the regular season in second place with a 7-3-0 conference record and an 11-4-1 overall record. The Varsity team did well because of the depth on the team, being able to put any player out there and still being a first class team. Now they are in a well-deserved playoff and need all the support possible.
Great Year Cougars!!!

“RUN NATE RUN!” is something you might hear being yelled at Senior Captain, Nate Rue at a cross country meet this year. We here at the Como Crier, were able to slow Nate down just long enough for an interview.
Nate and the Cross Country team are like horses with blinders. They only have one thing in their sights. The Como Cross Country team is looking to win conference for the second year in a row. More specifically, Nate is looking to qualify for state, and place rather high. When asked what kind of team the Cougars had this year, and what their “strengths” were, Nate had this to say, “We’re fast.” Nate is, needless to say, a man of few words.
So far the team has looked very good. They have a very deep boys team, which is going to allow them to continue to earn points for placement. Nate specifically is very impressed with sophomore, Marshal Landrum, who is running like “a man on a mission…” and who is really coming on as a strong runner. The XC Cougars have had several very good meets of late, including top finishes for both Nate and Marshal in the Saint Paul Grade by Grade meet. Make sure to come out and cheer on your Cougars!

Como Park’s JV volleyball team achieved victory against Como Park’s rival team Central on Thursday night. The games were very close with scores of 25-21, 21-25, and 16-14.

Como was on the edge of their seats during the last game. Was it going to be Como or Central? You could feel the tension in the gym. Como knew that if they didn’t win, they would get this rubbed in their faces later. They couldn’t lose! They ignored the distracting yells and cheers from both sides of the audience, they were one thing, focused.

The whistle blew, and as soon as you knew it, the ball came flying over. Bump! Set! Spike! We made a perfect play, that is what we needed, and a few more plays like that and we had won!

Como’s JV boys soccer team had an impressive win against Central on Wednesday.
The Cougars started the game with very high pressure, which seemed to bother Central’s passing game quite a lot. The high pressure resulted in Como could converting a centerfield turnover into a goal in middle of the second half on a great shot from the left wing.
Como did not pull themselves back to protect the lead but kept pressuring Central and forcing them to make mistakes. This paid off in the beginning of the second half. They converted a messy situation in Central’s penalty box into a goal. Central started getting stressed and went all out. They did manage to get a goal with 10 minutes left on a penalty kick, but did not get any closer. The Cougars won the game 2-1.
The Cougars are off to a great start as they are 5-1-1 this season. Come out and support them on Monday 3:15 pm @ McMurray as they take on Central one more time.
